Thermostat Replacement

We replace failed or outdated thermostats in homes across California and Nevada, and we do it as a same-visit job in most cases. You need a replacement when the display is dead, the temperature reading drifts from what the room actually feels like, the system short cycles, or the old unit no longer matches your equipment after a change out. Before you call, check the batteries and the settings, and look for a tripped breaker. If the system still will not respond, book a visit and we will pull the old one and wire in the new.

What the replacement job involves

We start at the wall, then work back to the equipment. The old thermostat comes off so we can see how many wires are present and what each one is doing, because a five wire setup and a two wire setup lead to very different choices. We kill power at the breaker before touching anything, mount the new plate level, land the wires, and set the configuration for your system type. Then we run a full cycle in cooling and in heating and watch that the call, the blower, and the shutoff all behave.

What we check and install

We check the wire count and condition, the low voltage transformer, the common wire situation, and whether your system is a single stage unit, a two stage, a heat pump, or an attic package unit. Package units in particular need the changeover set correctly or you get heat when you asked for cool. We install standard programmable and smart thermostats, set the schedule with you, and label the wiring for whoever opens it next. If the old wire is corroded or too short, we address that instead of stretching it.

How we decide replacement is the right call

Sometimes the thermostat is fine and the problem sits at the board, the transformer, or a burned wire in the attic. We test before we sell. If the thermostat holds voltage and calls correctly, we tell you so and go looking elsewhere. Replacement is the honest answer when the display is dead with good power, the sensor reads several degrees off a calibrated meter, the contacts stick and cause short cycling, or the unit cannot control the staging your equipment needs.

Thermostat Replacement — quick answers

Can I keep my existing wiring when replacing a thermostat?

Usually yes. Most homes have enough conductors for a standard replacement. Smart models often need a common wire, and if yours is missing we discuss options rather than forcing a hookup that will fail later.

Will a new thermostat fix my weak cooling?

Rarely. A thermostat controls when the system runs, not how well it cools. If air is weak or warm, we check filter, airflow, and the outdoor unit, then look at the refrigerant side with proper tools.

How long does a thermostat replacement take?

Most take under an hour, including configuration and a test cycle in both heating and cooling. Older wiring, missing conductors, or a package unit changeover setup can add time, and we tell you before we start.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and what the thermostat reads. That tells us whether to bring parts for a cooling fault or a heating fault.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant pressures, and the outdoor unit. You get told what failed and why, in plain words, before anything is replaced.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then run the system and measure the results at the vents. If a part needs ordering, we say so and give you a realistic window instead of a vague promise.

Why homeowners call us

  • Built for real valley heatWe work in areas where afternoons sit above 110 degrees and systems run for months without a break. That shapes how we size repairs, check capacitors and contactors, and judge whether a compressor is genuinely done.
  • Attic and package unitsPlenty of homes across the region run attic air handlers or rooftop package units instead of a garage furnace and a side-yard condenser. We are used to the access, the duct runs, and the drain issues those setups bring.
  • Dust and debris we expectAg dust, cottonwood fluff and grass clippings pack condenser coils and starve a system of airflow. We clean what we find and show you the difference, rather than adding refrigerant to a unit that just could not breathe.
  • Heating too, not only ACFurnace repair, heat pump faults and no-heat calls get the same attention as summer work. Ignition problems, cracked or failing components and short cycling all get diagnosed before we recommend anything larger.

  • Straight answersWhen a replacement beats a repair, we tell you, sometimes before we roll a truck.
